Painting concrete floors can give a new look to your house. Therefore, doing a little hard work is something you must to do in order to transform those floors so it will be nice as before. Painting the concrete floors is a good way if you do not want to spend much money, because it will spruce up a garage floor or laundry room at minimal cost.

To paint the concrete floors is not easy as painting the sheet rock and you need to follow several steps. There are some tools and materials needed to complete your work or project. Those tools and materials that you need are a mask, eye protection, gloves, a paint brush, a paint roller, a paint tray, concrete primer, concrete paint, etching acid, tri sodium phosphate (TSP), hydraulic cement, a scrub brush, bucket and mop.

The most important step that you have to do is cleaning the surface before painting it so any oil or grease will be removed from the surface. When cleaning the surface and then, you find out the larger grease stains, you can absorb it by using kitty litter. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, you have to mix the TSP cleaning solution as the first step and then, mop the floor thoroughly with the TSP solution. After mopping the floor, you should rinse well and allow it to completely dry.

The second step is to use the hydraulic cement in order to repair any cracks or holes in the concrete. Before doing that, it will be better for you wear the gloves and eye protection first. After wearing them all, you, then, mix the etching acid with water according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Before using the etching acid, you should mix it thoroughly.

Take a small amount of etching acid and then pour it on the concrete floor. After that, you can use the mop to spread the acid in a small area. Just do this process and continue it until you have completely etched the entire floor. Before using a shop vac vacuum, you have to allow the acid to full dry. A shop vac vacuum is used to clean the etched concrete and remove all dust and debris from the floor.

After completely etching and cleaning the floor, now you can apply the primer. Use a stir stick to stir the primer and you have to make sure that it will be mixed well. Use the paint tray reservoir as a place for you to pour some primer. Find a brush and use it in order to cut in around the entire perimeter of the room and around any other fixed objects in the room, such as poles or floor vents. After that, use the roller and paint tray to roll a coat of primer on the floor working in about four foot sections. You have to be careful so you will not to paint yourself into a corner. Before applying the paint, you have to make sure that the primer is fully dry.

If the primer is dry, you can apply the concrete floor pain in the same fashion. One thing that you should know that the drying time depends on what type of floor paint that you use. For the last step, you just apply a sealer to the floor. When applying a sealer, you should wear a mask and make sure to keep the area well ventilated. Those are the steps and some things that you should know in painting concrete floors.
