Laminate flooring which sometimes also called as floating wood tile is a multilayer flooring that made by both of synthetic flooring product and lamination process. It is simulates wood by a photographic appliqué layer inside the clear protective layer. However, the laminate wood floors are more affordable than the original hardwood flooring because these laminate wood floors are easier to install and maintain. As the effect of the easy way to install and maintain, this laminate wood floors are also as cheaper cost. So people afford this flooring more than the original hardwood flooring.

Anyway, if you are one of the most people who are interested in the laminate flooring, you can install the laminate flooring by yourself. The process won’t be too difficult, but it still needs some skills. Anyway, the most ideal time to this activity is on the daytime. Because there are some process that will make a little noise, and perhaps one of your neighbor will complaint.

The first thing that you have to do before the installation is stacking the laminate flooring. This must be done because the temperature and humidity can affect the flooring planks. You can stack the laminate flooring 2 days before the installation. You must remove any plastic wrapping on the laminate flooring and give some empty space to let some air circulate around them. Anyway, when you want to buy any laminate flooring, it is better to have more flooring than the square feet area. It is because you will waste just a little of it when you have to cut some rather than you must let some space empty.

After that, you have to make sure if there is no dirt or debris left on the subfloor. Clean the subfloor with any vacuum or broom. But if you want to install the laminate flooring on a new concrete floor, you will have to wait until the floor is finally cured. If necessary, remove all base molding with a pry bar and hammer. Then place it out from the places.

The installation starts when you are starting to install the vapor barrier. Lay the vapor barrier one row at a time from the longest side of the room. Follow the manufacturer’s directions when you want to make one two sheets of the vapor barrier together. Some will say that you will have to overlap the vapor barrier while the other will have you to butt each row against the previous one.

After you install the vapor barrier, you can trim the door jambs. Mark the jambs with a piece of flooring flat on the subfloor and up against the door jambs. With this mark, the new flooring can slide underneath the jamb. Then cut the jambs, cut it parallel with the subfloors.  With this, the finished look will be nice and you don’t have to remove the jamb.

After that, you can start to install the first row. Lay the planks parallel to the longest side of the wall. Add 0.5” spacers against the wall and put the first plank up against them. Thos will let the floor expand and contract, not warp or buckle.  The gap there will be covered with base molding at the end. The spacers just needed to be placed about every 12” along the wall, the rest of it will adjoin the walls. After that, you can start to install the other flooring, but make sure if there is no gaps between it.

The last steps are installing the threshold and base molding. The threshold must be installed in every ends of the flooring. For the base molding, you can remove the spacers first and then install it.
